지금껏 우리나라에서 만들어진 잡지는 그 양은 방대하다. 초기의 잡지들은 역사, 지리, 자연과학, 어문학등을 내용으로한 한국의 최초 잡지 근대적인 종합잡지였다. 시간이 흘러 근대화가 되고 서구의 소설을 번역하게 되었다. 이런 과정에서 나타난 고유어, 외래어 등 정리해 놓은 책이다.
