지금까지 진행된 북한의 문법 연구에 관한 연구 저서를 중심으로 북한의 언어학적 측면과 문법에 대해 고찰한 책이다. 남북한의 문법 연구 성과를 비교하면서 그 차이와 문제점을 밝힌다. 또한 비교언어학의 방법론적 원칙에 따라 보다 많은 사람들에게 익숙한 '표준국어문법론'을 시점, 또는 기준으로 하여 남북한 문법 연구 성과를 검토하고 있다.
